May 2017: 15 of the NEW trains will enter service to replace Class 315s between Shenfield, Gidea Park, Romford, Manor Park, Stratford and Liverpool Street. Platform lengthening and Overhead Wire work was visible during 2016 and early 2017 to account for this.
For eagle eyed readers, you'll know there are approximately 25 diagrams for the 315s, but many of these are 8-car diagrams thus requiring two 315 units. As the new trains are 7/9-car, only one unit will be needed for services (the others will be spares for maintenance/etc), which explains why there isn't 25 entering service initially!
By 2020, all 60 of these units will be in service, operating on the other sections of the route: towards Paddington for services to Reading or Heathrow. Trains will also run between Canary Wharf and Abbey Wood.
