£4 Million Upgrade ~ Abellio Greater Anglia
321426 - Refurbished First Class on a Class 321. Smart, hey?! The other 321s will be in similar style as part of Renatus scheme (10 units) and also GA overhaul project (remainder of fleet). Peter. |
Harry and Lewis both here for today's post.
Abellio Greater Anglia has unveiled the first internally refurbished Class 321 - 321310 - the first of approximately 30 units to be overhauled (photos attached to show what they look like when complete).
NOTE: This programme is NOT apart of the Renatus Project, where 10 units (believed to be 321 301-310, with 303/304 being complete by Spring 2017) will receive new seat covers, grabrails, air-con and lighting updates and traction modifications.

NOTE: This also is NOT the GA funded EMU class 321 refurbishment programme for 2016-2018 NEITHER, in which the final class 321s of the GA fleet (including the transferred GTR 321s) receive an internal overhaul to bring them up to date.
TIP: These ex-GTR units can be singled out by looking for the units with FCC style seating, and currently a large first class area which will be reduced in size.
TIP: The remaining class 321s (355/360 being the first to get this scheme) of the GA fleet will be easily identified by looking for new seat covers and also grabrails painted RED in Standard Class (not blue like the previous overhaul, or by the Renatus Overhaul where a different seating style is used compared to that shown below).
Hope this makes sense! To clarify:
- Approximately 30 Class 321s were overhauled at CLACTON IN SUMMER 2015 (end product shown in the photos in this post),
- 10 Class 321s (321303/304 included, believed to be 301-310) are for the Renatus Refurbishment Programme
- This leaves roughly 55 Class 321s in the fleet which aren't refurbished, so these are to be refreshed between 2016/2018 into a similar style as the interior in the photos above, but with RED grabrails in Standard Class rather than BLUE.
