The new trains will entre service from 2017 onwards and will feature air conditioned walk through carriages and will have a capacity for 1,500 passengers. The 'Aventra' trains will be built by Bombardier in Derby and feature 9 carriages at 200 metres in length. The trains will operate over the new Crossrail route from Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the East and Reading in the West.
The seating layout features a mix of longitudinal seating a bay seating just like the S8 Metropolitan Line stock, also built by Bombardier, but the new Crossrail trains will feature less seats than the existing Class 315 trains but will run more frequently. The interior design has been carefully designed to provide a welcoming environment and includes darker floors and natural finish materials that wear in, not wear out.
