Virgin Trains East Coast Fleet Refurbishment

Recently, and as reported prior to the project, Virgin Trains East Coast have announced that it will refurbish its fleet.

It's confirmed that the first refurbished train will operate on 14th December 2015, on its new route between Sunderland and London Kings Cross.

The company plan to refurbish all 45 of its fleet which compromises of 401 carriages in total. The £21 million refurbishment will include new seat covers, new carpets, curtains fitted and better on board signage. The work will be carried out at Bound Green depot in London and Craigentinny depot in Edinburgh. In addition to the refurbishment of its entire fleet, the company is also spending £16 million refurbishing the MTU engines in its Class 43 High Speed Trains.

The Virgin Trains East Coast fleet is due to be replaced from 2018 onwards with brand new, state of the art Hitachi Super Express units. VTEC plan to retain a fleet of 7 Class 91's after full Class 800/801 deployment for express London Kings Cross to Edinburgh services.
