WEEK REVIEW ~ Fri 6th Nov 2015

Morning! Harry here providing cover for the Week Review; Slightly early this week, I know, but my vacation begins tomorrow so haven't got any other time to post. Now, the NEWS:

Six 2-Car Class 170s are still being prepared for Southern (previously at ScotRail). They are receiving new seats, couplers and also maintenance on the engines and wheelsets. Trains will also need to be adapted in order to communicate with the rest of the current Southern fleet (for example, Driver to Train Manager equipment). The trains will operate between London and Uckfield, in up to 10-car formations. Platforms are being lengthened for this reason.

Seats are being done by HD Trim, who own the photo
Southern said: "The platform extension at all eight stations have their own level of complexity based on the geographical nature of the region. This is a significant undertaking which requires some line closures in order to make the necessary improvements. Our aim has been to limit extensive engineering work, whilst at the same time allowing the works to progress as quickly as possible so that passengers get the benefit of longer trains at the earliest opportunity.

Today, Abellio Greater Anglia Class 156 156418 was named "ESTA 1965 to 2015" at Lowestoft. This is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the East Suffolk Line (Lowestoft to Ipswich). Thanks Andy L for confirmation.

Meanwhile at the TOC, 90006 has gone to for an overhaul and splash of paint at Crewe and Toton. Thanks Andy L for photo permission.

Also at Abellio Greater Anglia, they now operate their Twitter Feed 24/7 (as of Sunday). This is due to a partnership with National Rail Enquires.

With Remembrance Sunday approaching, a special livery has been applied to 43172. With thanks to Chris Andrews, we reproduce this photo here.

Bombardier & Gatwick Express (C).
Clasa 387 Sisters for GE.
315859 was at Ilford recently. It is believed to be acquiring the TFL livery.

A further 20 four-car Class 387s are to be manufactured by Bombardier, although their destiny isn't determined yet. Once built, I guess we'll know more about which operator they're going to.

Finally, a fact. In each Week Review from now on, we'll have a general railwy fact. This week we state that train station announcements are generally made 3 minutes before a train departs. Some TOCs, such as South West Trains, even have it announced once again as the train approaches the station.

That's all from me for now. I'm back in ten days, on Monday 16th! Aydan's Freight Focus is Sunday and Jacob's posting his first Heritage Focus tomorrow!
