UPDATES ~ Gatwick Express

(C) Gatwick Express
A lack of Week Review Today, but I'll now bring you Updates from the South East of England instead!

KEY WORDS: Red, Shiny And Modern. 4-Car, Bombardier, New.

Of course, we're talking about the significant news which comes from Gatwick Express. The operator, which is now operated by the Govia franchise, is preparing its Class 387/2 stock to enter service this Spring on where else but the Gatwick Airport corridor.

These units have 2+2 seating with dedicated luggage areas to cater for the Airport customer base.

We've previously highlighted the details on the blog, so won't go into the exact specifications again. They can be seen here, and here

Branding has now been applied to some of the units, which have be operating many test runs the past few months or so.

The fleet of 27 4-car 387/2s will mean that the Class 442s, that operate on the line at present, will be displaced or withdrawn. There's been suggestions of converting them into MK3 carriages, conversion into new units (like the 460s) or even scrapping these. Either way, we'll have to wait and see to what the fate of these units will be!
