At Plymouth, 150219 on the 13:39 Penzance to Exeter collided at low speed into the rear of the stationary 15:42 Plymouth to Paddington, formed of a HST with 43160 damaged. This incident occured on Platform 6 at approximately 15:35.

There are currently 18 injuries, including one of the drivers, and these casualties are being assessed by the Paramedics at the scene. An air ambulance arrived just after 16:45, along with Ambulances, to take 8 of the injured to Derringford Hospital.

BTP added: 'Our officers are currently at the station, alongside colleagues from South Western Ambulance Service, Devon and Cornwall Police and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

“The incident is likely to result in delays to passengers travelling through the Plymouth area. Please check before with National Rail Enquiries before you travel.”

"We are currently investigating the circumstances to determine what happened."

Devon and Cornwall Police said the crash at Plymouth Railway Station was a "low impact collision" and they were not aware of any serious injuries, only between 15 and 20 minor ones.

Dominic Parnell, 33, said the train he was travelling on collided with one in front:
"We were travelling fairly slowly as we were arriving at the platform when we came to a sudden stop with a huge bang. Of course, most people were stood up waiting to alight and were thrown forward.
GWR said: 'We are still able to run services into and out of Plymouth in both directions, using alternative platforms, with services calling as booked.'

All the team hope that there are minimal serious injuries, with best wishes going out to the casualties and train crew. Whilst this isn't an ideal situation, it could of been a lot more serious - we must appreciate that these situations are rare, and railway safety is very high in this country overall. ^Harry

**AT 17:40, South West Ambulance Service Stated: '12 vehicles sent to the scene - the 1st one arrived in 3 mins, 18 casualties treated, most walking wounded, 8 going to hospital. All stable.' **
