Phil Sayer. This Service Terminates Here.....
Today, we pay tribute and say farewell to one of the most iconic voices across the UK Railway Network....
Phil Sayer, a voiceover artist from Bolton who was born in 1953 and previously worked for the BBC as a news reader, as well as doing commercial work, has sadly passed away following his battle with Cancer.
BRITAIN'S MOST APOLOGETIC COUPLE
Phil Sayer was most commonly known for his pre-recorded announcements at railway stations (including Birmingham New Street) around the UK, primarily on the TFL, Southern, South Eastern and South West Trains network.
EXAMPLE OF ANNOUNCEMENTS
Wife Elinor Hamilton, also a voiceover artist, stated: “Phil Sayer – voice of reason, radio, and railways. A dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. We are sorry to announce that this service terminates here.” Their blog/website is here, with lots of features from their career.
THE GUARDIAN: In 2007, Sayer told the BBC: “These days, most of my work is as a voiceover artist, though I still present live shows and conferences for corporate clients from time to time. It’s my voice on most of the automated PA systems on railway stations across the UK. As a result, I’m heard saying ‘Sorry…’ quite a lot."
MIND THE GAP PLEASE.
I conclude this post with one of the funniest interviews around from Phil Sayer. Highlights from the Interview on our Twitter Feed (Tweets A/B/C in this link). ^Harry
