GWR Network Turbo 165124 Derails
Since 19:30, We've Been Reporting (On Twitter) The Unfortunate Events At Paddington, Causing Frustration To Customers And Lots Of Work For The Staff. This Post Pieces Together The Events We Know Of, Based On TOC, Network Rail And Witness Accounts.
As Known:
- 165124 was on an ECS movement fron Reading to Paddington, when it derailed. The Network Rail Press Release say that the train ended in this situation after passing a ground signal, so a SPAD.
- From this, the train that derailed collided into the Signal Gantry, bringing down the overhead wires - as seen in photos. Train windscreen damaged.
- Paddington state that the remaining power is turned off for safety (meaning no Electric Trains running on any lines). Also meaning two Heathrow Express trains block lines. So Network Rail Engineers investigating damage to assess and rectify.
- Ticket Acceptance on South West Trains, TFL Buses/Tube, Cross Country and Chiltern for alternative routes, but many services very busy. (21:20)
**** 18th June Update: DB Schenker Recovery helped to move the Unit back onto the tracks, to help clear the area. The unit was then taken to Old Oak common. ****
